If your drive is locked, third party applications will not see the drive until the password is entered. When using these applications be sure to point your backup to the actual external drive and not the Virtual CD (VCD). Even after I install what they offer, no back up app is seen. When I attempt to install their software, the back up app is not listed as one of the downloads (See picture). I already use a different WD My Passport with Time Machine to back up my laptop and have had no issues, so that's why I went with another WD.
